Astro Fighter Sunred is the latest half-length animu “airing” on Nico Nico Douga, following Penguin Girl Heart and Candy Boy. Unlike the latter two, Sunred is airing on TV currently and being streamed shortly after on Nico.

The show’s your typical comedy short format like Gag Manga Biyori, Colorful, or Sexy Commando Masaru. It centers around Sunred, the laziest, cigarette-smoking, gambling bum superhero in existence, his girlfriend Kayoko, and the evil Florsheim organization with their various, uh, monsters, ranging from a giant squid to a flying bunny. The joke’s that Florsheim keeps attacking Sunred for no apparent reason, since they’re bad guys, except they all lead normal lives and there’s nothing all that hero/villain-esque about them.

I checked out an episode of this on Nico when was it was first up. Now that the DVD’s are out and there’s fansubs, I have no excuse to skip out on 12 minutes of laughs every time. Neither should you.
