I’m glad Shirley is dead. She was a waste of space.
Though, I’m not really sure why anyone among the anime blog population cares. Geass R2 jumped the shark back in episode 4. All Geass has left is Mai Otome-style Sunrise trainwreck value. And it doesn’t even do that competently.
It’s pathetic, considering that the first season was an entertaining ride with decent writing. R2’s hilariously terrible attempts at drama and “twists” are borderline painful to laugh at.

Everyone can have different opinions. Even if the raw materials are the same, interpretations differ. Not rocket science, I think.
Hell…you think R2 “jumped the shark” at 4, others say 1, 6, 8, 11, 12 or…SHOCK, don’t think it has.

Hint: The reactions to the first season of Geass were overwhelmingly positive. It’s no coincidence that there’s so many proclaiming that that R2 has “jumped the shark”.

People complained about Code Geass when it was airing too. Except now while watching R2, they seem to have all forgotten that while watching the first season they had criticisms of it, and bash on R2 because it doesn’t match up. Maybe nostalgia is playing a role, or maybe first season really was just that much better than R2.
Oh well, I’m still entertained.

Link: Yet the point is, people even disagree about when this would have happened.
Even if we just consider blogs, which only represent a handful of individuals, you see everything from laughter to praise to hatred, and everything in between.
That and what ShadowRift just said. Still, even I would admit R2 has had some incredibly crappy moments and arcs.
Yet I’m not only entertained, but think this episode was a good way to begin turning things around for the better.
Doesn’t mean you have to agree.

I wouldn’t say trainwreck.
I’d say wasted potential of the greatest degree.
Geass jumped the shark so to speak when Mao was introduced. That’s when they couldn’t learn how to mix good symbolism (I hate this fucking word) with well executed scenes.
The stuff is there yet it’s disappointing they pull potentially fantastic scenes like Episode 22 (23?) in such a horrid manner.

R2 isn’t that bad. Sure , it hasn’t lived up to the hype of season 1.
One thing I’d appreciate done away with is the needless and untimely fanservice. The producers should not try to overcompensate , thus turning a cerebrally appetising show into something 12-year olds fap to. Sorry Sunrise , wrong move.

I wouldn’t neccesarily say R2 is ‘bad’, but it really hasn’t been all that great either. Half-arsed Drama, boring, short mech battles, over use of fanservice, Death Note-like stradagizing missing…
I’ve been rewatching Season 1 on Adult Swim at the same time as R2 and I gotta say that season one was truly better. R2 forgot the fact season one was character driven and dramatic, not relying one ‘new mecha saves the day!’ type scenes, sex and banal story arcs. The (crappy) China arc reminded me of the average eppy of Gundam 00 with the way it was handled.
BTW, I didn’t like Gundam 00.
