ZUN pulls out his random name generator once again and has announced Subterranean Animism, the 11th main game in his long-running Touhou series. The demo will be out at Reitaisai on May 25th, stacked with the already announced release of the Immaterial and Missing Power followup, Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. Two huge releases at one Reitaisai is yay.

The theme this time is earth with a story involving earth spirits and youkai. Apparently only Reimu and Marisa will be playable again with the ability to call on the powers of youkai. I have no idea if this means that they augment our heroines’ powers or if they’re playable characters a la Imperishable Night. I’m hoping the latter. One of the screenshots shows Marisa shooting sideways, so we may be in for some surprises.

The last screen that ZUN released looks particularly intriguing and pretty.

This is a good year to be a Touhou fan.
