After three episodes, Kure-nai is my favorite series of this season by a longshot. While the first episode didn’t hook me, I fell in love with it a few minutes into the second episode. I’ve re-watched that second episode four times now. I’m such a fool for stylistic dramas.
I appreciate the fine attention to detail. It complements the semi-realistic, gritty tone of the series. Scenes like Murasaki blowing bubbles in the bath or opening a can of tuna (which was lol) are a sight to behold. Brains Base has their work cut out for them this time and more. I was wondering when, if ever, they’d be able to top Kamichu. The music (by Ken Muramatsu, an apparently talented newcomer?) is well fitting and seems like an OST I’ll be listening to often.
It’s such a surprise, given that it was nowhere on my radar. I should have known with how the ill-fated, yet spirited Red Garden impressed me in certain aspects, even if it failed in others. Man, I’m on my way to becoming a Kou Matsuo fanboy. It even has the unusual “record first, animate second” voice acting style of Red Garden.

Yeah, the “record first, animate second process”, more similar to that of American animation, does wonders in making the acting more natural sounding. It certainly gives it a good edge over most other shows.
