I’m slightly late to the party, but Tora no Ana has announced a series of soft vinyl figures with cutesy “super-deformed” proportions. So far, they’ve announced the first two: a fittingly oblivious Cirno and a bizarre looking upside-down panty shot Reisen. They’re 2625 yen and available May 26th.
Finally, we get our first official Touhou figures! I’m no so hot on the Reisen, but I’ve already ordered Cirno.
For all of us living outside of Japan and don’t want to be sodomized by Yahoo Auctions Japan, I suggest a proxy service.
Thanks to Heisei Democracy for the tip.
I’m liking Macross Frontier for all the readily apparent reasons. The well-animated dogfights, the clever theme, Maaya Sakamoto’s true return, Ranka (Megumi Nakajima is doing a fine job here), and such. What keeps me coming back to Macross F is the throwbacks to the franchise of old from the “Miss Macross Contest” to Ranka singing Watashi no Kare wa Pilot and all the rest. The show feels like the original and Plus’ gifted child – what the 25th anniversary of Macross should be, a tribute to the best of its lineage.
Did I mention that Ranka’s very cute?
I should watch Do You Remember Love to relive the memories. It’s been years.
This video is awesomely meta.
And Chen is cute. I can’t turn down Chen.
I finished watching Genesis Climber Mospeada (of Macross fame) today. It was entertaining 80s cheese, but I felt cheated and annoyed at the end. Extremely cheated. I know that Mospeada’s very old, so I’m less warranted in my complaints as of the present, yet why do tired reset endings still continue to this day? The excuse for an ending is a lazy emotional grab at the audience that rarely, if ever, works. It doesn’t leave a strong positive impression with viewers and it betrays our enjoyment. After finishing the show, I have to say that it almost seemed like a waste of my time, if it weren’t the last Macross series that I had to see for completion.
Mospeada should be the true prototypical example of how reset endings ruin the tone and the lasting appeal of an anime series. Bleh.
First, the Haruhi novels. Now the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei manga. What’s next, Blaster Knuckle?
Now all we need is Akiyuki Shinbo’s maniacal SZS anime adaptation licensed (along with SHAFT’s beautiful ef – a tale of memories and Shinbo’s slice-of-life playground Hidamari Sketch) to complete the circle.
After three episodes, Kure-nai is my favorite series of this season by a longshot. While the first episode didn’t hook me, I fell in love with it a few minutes into the second episode. I’ve re-watched that second episode four times now. I’m such a fool for stylistic dramas.
I appreciate the fine attention to detail. It complements the semi-realistic, gritty tone of the series. Scenes like Murasaki blowing bubbles in the bath or opening a can of tuna (which was lol) are a sight to behold. Brains Base has their work cut out for them this time and more. I was wondering when, if ever, they’d be able to top Kamichu. The music (by Ken Muramatsu, an apparently talented newcomer?) is well fitting and seems like an OST I’ll be listening to often.
It’s such a surprise, given that it was nowhere on my radar. I should have known with how the ill-fated, yet spirited Red Garden impressed me in certain aspects, even if it failed in others. Man, I’m on my way to becoming a Kou Matsuo fanboy. It even has the unusual “record first, animate second” voice acting style of Red Garden.
No, this post isn’t about the beautiful weather today. Though, Lily White has to be ecstatic.
Mere words cannot describe how incredible this Imperishable Night piano medley is. You have to see it for yourself. The man has talent.
After re-watching the first few episodes of the magical girl classic Hime-chan’s Ribbon last night, I was reminded of how much I love Cardcaptor Sakura’s dizzyingly cute array of costumes. I know that CCS is an ironic subversion of magical girl costuming, yet I still wish that that the genre would continually embrace it.
I’m not even asking for Amu (of Shugo Chara, my current magical girl crush) to have a new outfit every single episode, but three or four costumes recycled with a few more one-shots here and there in a 52 episode series is such a waste of potential (and Peach-Pit’s talent).
Join me in my desire for greater cuteness in a genre that could always use it.
